Returning Veteran Sues Former Employer
Unfortunately, you knew that something like this was going to happen. According to a story in the San Franciso Chronicle, Lt. Col. Debra Muhl lost her job with Sutter Health two days after she notified her supervisor that her unit was deploying to Iraq. Now she's back --- and fighting back. Muhl has sued Sutter Health under the USERRA.
Sutter's explanation? "Internal economics" and unfortunate timing. Perhaps. But my guess is that this case will be settled quickly --- it's hard to believe that Sutter would want to take on this battle even if they have a colorable defense, which sounds questionable based upon the few facts reported.
