Employment Rights of Returning Veterans
Effective January 18, 2006 the U.S. Department of Labor issued final regulations governing the right to employment and reemployment of returning veterans. The regulations are lengthy but are clarified by a section of frequently asked questions.
Some highlights:
Returning vets must be reemployed in an appropriate position, usually within two weeks.
They must be returned to the same status, pay and seniority that they would have achieved but for their service.
Reinstatement rights of disabled veterans.
Impact upon health and pension benefits during and upon return from service.
