NJ State Aviation Conference 2012 Is May 4 at EWR

The annual NJ State Aviation Conference will be held on Friday, May 4, at the historic North Terminal of Newark Liberty International Airport. Details here. This year's program focuses on "Navigating the Regulatory Maze" for pilots and general aviation airports.

The Conference is presented by the Mid-Atlantic Aviation Coalition. Frank Steinberg, a MAAC director and experienced aviation attorney, will be moderating a panel discussion on how pilots can deal with Temporary Flight Restrictions [TFR's, in pilot lingo] and other airspace issues where being in the wrong place at the wrong time can cause a heap of trouble with the FAA.

Other panels deal with upgrading older aircraft, and airport improvement issues.

There will be a keynote presentation by NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson, and a talk by Diane Crean of the FAA. The program closes with presentations by the Hindenburg Historical Society and representatives of McGuire Air Force Base, both of which promise to be fascinating.

This is truly the event to attend if you have an interest in aviation in NJ. The cost is a very reasonable $50, which buys you a very good lunch. Walk-in's are welcome. I hope to see you there.

Steinberg Law Gets A New Look!

With the help of our good friends at Lexblog, both our website and the NJ Employment Law Blog have a fresh new look. The website overhaul was long overdue, and the graphics on the blog were getting a bit long in the tooth, too.

I'm particularly fond of the new graphics, which give me the feeling of looking out from the inside of a seashell. And for a Jersey boy who has spent virtually every summer of his life at the shore, that's a nice feeling to have year around.

There's new content on the website, and we'll be adding to it regularly. And, of course, our blog will keep you up to date on what you need to know to navigate the often treacherous waters of employment law in the Garden State.

So take a look around, subscribe to the blog if you haven't done so already, and let us know what you think. As always, we promise to keep it light, useful, and worth your time.

NJ Employment Law Blog Honored

We're thrilled that the New Jersey Employment Law Blog has again been named one of the top 100 employment law blogs. The top 100 list is published annually by the Delaware Employment Law Blog, a terrific publication in its own right. You'll find the rankings here.

One of the things that blogging on employment law teaches you is that the law that regulates the employment relationship continues to develop and expand at a staggering pace. New cases, new laws, new regulations . . . reinterpretations of what we thought was settled law . . . it just goes on and on. My fellow bloggers perform an important public service by helping us all keep track of everything that is going on. It would, quite frankly, be impossible for any of us acting alone, and in this collaboration we see one the ways that bloggers provide an invaluable public service to the legal and business communities.

And thanks again to Molly DiBianca of the Delaware Employment Law Blog for her hard work in keeping track of (and hopefully making some sense out of) all of us in the employment law corner of the blogosphere.

Frank Steinberg Elected to Second Term

Frank Steinberg has been reelected to a second consecutive term as Chair of the Somerset County Business Partnership. Local coverage of the event is here.

Over the past year the Business Partnership has increased its membership to more than 650. As always, the membership runs a broad gamut from Fortune 50 companies to small local business and professional practices.

The Partnership has taken a leading role statewide in advocating for a more favorable business climate and quality of life in New Jersey, most notably through its year-long Affordability Campaign. In 2011 the advocacy focus will shift to (among other things) a Competitiveness Initiative designed to improve New Jersey's business, tax and regulatory environment relative to other states in the Northeast.

The Business Partnership remains a terrific organization that is only getting better. If your business is located in central New Jersey, it's worth a look.

About a month ago I told you that I had taped a television panel discussion on Cancer in the Workplace, focusing on disability issues. Hosted by the award-winning Steve Adubato, our segment of Caucus NJ has now aired and is running on a couple of stations. For most of you the easiest access will be on the New Jersey Network.

If you don't feel like waiting for it on TV, you can watch online here.

By the way, Steve is a very polished host and had a great way of swinging the conversation around the room to the different panelists, integrating our various areas of expertise.

I was a bit under the weather on taping day so I don't sound like myself, but I had a terrific discussion with some great people. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.
